Background

CPB Contractors (CPB) were engaged by the Department of Defence to provide a tender estimate for the proposed upgrade works to the existing RAAF Learmonth Base in Western Australia.

WHAT WE DID

MGA were commissioned by CPB to provide the estimate quantities in the form of a Bill of Quantities (BoQ) from the supplied 90% detailed design scope of work and associated drawings. Discipline’s taken off by MGA included;

  • Aerodrome Ground Lighting
  • Aircraft Arrestor Systems
  • Fuel Systems
  • Electrical Services
  • Drainage Structure
  • Pavement Markings & Signage
  • Flood Immunity Works

The quantities were digitally measured from the provided drawings using our Estimating Software Package ‘Eclipse CS’. Each item measured from the 90% detail design drawings has a fully auditable digital trail providing the facility to either, examine, track or  reconcile changes in design at the 100% design stage or as built measurement stage. The latter will be very useful when agreeing with the successful construction contractor.

Below is a sample of the marked up separately coded and measured items;

HOW IT TURNED OUT

The BoQ and final quantities formed part of the 90% design cost plan and were also used by CPB in their tender package enquiry process to ensure all tenderers priced the same quantities and on the same basis.

The project was completed ahead of an aggressive schedule and within the established budget by MGA.
