Background

MGA were engaged to provide a variety of Cost Management Services on the project including Cost Planning, Bill of Quantities production and Contract Administration.

The Work comprised of the construction of the new Health and Community Services Training Centre, associated roadworks and pedestrian paths, drainage, sewer upgrade, carparks, fences, classroom upgrades, administration building façade upgrade, landscaping, hydraulics, mechanical, electrical, fire tanks and pumps all staged to provide continued operation and the supply and installation of loose furniture and equipment.

WHAT WE DID

The cost planning was completed at a time when the marketplace was rapidly changing with the added complexity of working in a remote area of the state.

The cost planning associated with the services, completed by others, was not adjusted quickly enough to reflect the changing marketplace.

HOW IT TURNED OUT

MGA worked with the Client, Consultants and the Contractor to swiftly address these challenges and produce a revised Cost Plan/BOQ, which was then used in negotiation with the Contractor to deliver an outcome satisfactory to all parties.

MGA’s work was completed on time and within the budgets set and this allowed the Client to have some of the “nice to have” items previously omitted from the design.
